Your tour today will start with a transfer from Matarani to Arequipa, also known as "the White City" because of the white volcanic rock used in its buildings.
A panoramic tour of the downtown core showcases the arches of the Main Square, the City Hall and the cathedral. The latter is the most important neo-Classical religious building in the country, built in the mid-19th century over the ruins of an early Baroque church.
Then proceed to the South American Camelid Center to learn about the processing of alpaca products. Here, nature, ancient tradition and modern technology blend to create and promote a unique cultural legacy.
You will have some free time to explore on your own and to purchase lunch (at your own expense) in Arequipa before meeting up with your guide and returning to the pier in Matarani. The drive to Arequipa is two hours each way.
Please note:
As participants can expect to walk over paved and uneven ground, and step into and out of the coach, this excursion is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. The Travel time each way is 2 hours.
