The Baltic port of Rostock as an air of comfortable wealth, due to its gabled brick homes in the German Gothic style. It was an important member of the Hansa League and has a definite Scandinavian feel. Its Marienkirche survived the bombings of WWII unscathed, and the 15th century astrological clock is one reason to be grateful. Otherwise those interested in historic atmosphere may be attracted to nearby Lübeck, a UNESCO World Heritage treasure of Gothic splendor. The beaches and yachting marinas at Warnemünde are the draw for German vacationers, or the narrow-gauge Molli steam railway in Bad Doberan. The port is also used for access to Berlin on full-day excursions.
