Spetses, an island boasting a long maritime tradition, is famous for its significant Naval contribution to Greece's 1821 War of Independence. The island has managed to retain its individual traditional character thanks to its well-preserved grand mansions, once owned by seafaring Captains and still bearing eloquent witness to the island's glorious past.
You will visit the Museum of Bouboulina, named for a female warrior who played a significant role in the War of Independence. Visit her house to admire its carved, wooden Florentine ceiling, 18th- and 19th-century furniture, interesting collection of old weapons, fine porcelain and rare books.
Finally, enjoy a taste of the famous ouzo (licorice-flavored Greek liqueur) or a glass of wine on the waterfront.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Due to an update in the regulations at the museum at the House of Bouboulina, tour guides are no longer allowed to accompany groups through the museum. Therefore, your tour guide will give explanations before entering the museum and will be available for questions after the museum visit. The time at the museum will be spent at your leisure, should you have any questions during your museum visit leaflets will be provided for you and the museum personnel are present as well.
