Lesbos is the third largest Greek island, yet lies only miles from the Turkish coast, separated only by the narrow Mytilini Strait. Its capitol city, Mytilene, was founded in the 11th century BC, demonstrating a vast history for a relatively small island. Birders will enjoy bird watching, with over a dozen highly favored sites to choose from, and epicureans will delight in the fresh island cuisine. An olive oil testing is a must here, as is a glass of of the locally-made Ouzo.
