A brief motorcoach tour will serve as an orientation to the city of Cagliari. Watch for theBasilica Bonaria built in 1325 and head up Mount Urpino for sweeping views of Molentargius Pond and the Devil's Saddle in the distance. Leave the coach at the viewpoint just outside the city walls and set off on a walking tour inside the Old Town. View the 13th-century Tower of St Pancras and the Piazza Arsenale.
Step inside the Archeological Museum to see artifacts from the Nuraghic, Phoenician, Carthaginian, and Roman civilizations.
At the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Castello, visit the interior if you wish (at your own expense) or simply admire its exterior 13th-century Romanesque style and mock-Pisan façade. Note the hot-mess mixture of medieval, Renaissance and Baroque architectural details.
Enjoysome free time on your own before boarding the coach and driving back to the port.
