Amakhala Game Reserve offers visitors an experience of the diverse wildlife and landscapes of the Eastern Cape.
Amakhala Game Reserve is a unique conservation initiative that allows animals to be re-introduced to the area where they once roamed freely and so making a contribution to the conservation of our natural heritage. The land was used to ranch sheep and cattle up to the turn of the century and a challenge has been to re-establish the original flora and fauna species to the area and to return the land to nature.
Explore the Game Reserve's 18,000 acres in four-by-four vehicles to discover lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, and monkeys. This is your opportunity to be privileged enough to see the world-famous African animals close up in their own habitat.
The focus of the game drives is not only the large, majestic beasts but also the humble smaller mammals, birds and insects as the reserve hosts five of the world’s six vegetation biomes. Lunch will be served in the lodge after the game drive.
Please note:
Not suitable for guests using a wheelchair or those with mobility limitations as getting into and out of the game vehicles can present a significant challenge. During the day, temperatures can get extremely hot. The game drive vehicle may not be covered. Wear comfortable walking shoes and breathable clothing; bring sunscreen, a sun hat and binoculars. Ride will be bumpy. Guests with back or neck problems are not allowed to participate. The roads in the game reserve are gravel; there are also inclines and certain parts of the game drive can be bumpy. Minimum age is 6 years. Participants are not permitted to use cellular phones during the game drives or to speak loudly or stand up on the game drive vehicles, as this will disturb the animals. Smoking is not permitted. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Pumba Private Game Reserve’s curio shop does not accept foreign currency; you must have South African Rands to make a purchase. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.
