The new Munch Museum, which opened in 2021, contains 1,200 paintings and 4,500 drawings bequeathed to the city of Oslo by world-famous artist Edvard Munch. Study a cross-section of his paintings, etchings and lithographs today.
Continue to Vigeland Sculpture Park. This sprawling park covers 80 acres and features around 200 bronze and granite sculptures. Over the course of thirty years, Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland created a truly unique world here. The park's massive, centrally-placed monolith features 121 human bodies fighting their way upwards.
Oslo's Opera House was designed by Snøhetta -- the Norwegian firm that also designed the fabulously avant-garde Library of Alexandria in Egypt. The Opera House covers a total area of 414,000 square feet and boasts 1,100 rooms. It won the Culture Award at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in 2008 and, in 2009, won the Mies van der Rohe Award -- the European Union prize for contemporary architecture. Find out what goes on behind the scenes before the curtain rises and learn about the architecture and stagecraft from a knowledgeable guide. Take a short walk on the rooftop before heading back to the ship.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Very small bags are allowed inside the museum; bags larger than A4 (± 8" x 12") must be left on the coach. High-heeled shoes, shoes with spikes, food, beverages, liquids, sharp items, and umbrellas are not allowed inside the Opera House or the museum.
