The Pearl of the Adriatic and once a maritime powerhouse, Dubrovnik's beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains speak to a past that has been very exciting indeed. Earthquakes, a horrific civil war, and a stunning restoration program have all left their mark here. The new panoramic road leads to the iconic viewpoint overlooking Dubrovnik and its encompassing riviera.
Further south, the picturesque seaside resort town of Cavtat (pronounced sav-tat) sits quietly in a sunny corner of the Mediterranean. Unassuming yet elegant, Cavtat is a firm favorite and a best-kept secret among sailors, super-yachties, stars, and royalty -- after all, it is where King Edward VIII honeymooned with Wallace Simpson.
Put on your sunglasses, dodge the paparazzi, and relax on a motorboat ride along Croatia's coastline to this appealing enclave. You'll have approximately one hour of free time to explore Cavtat on your own.
Upon returning to Dubrovnik, enjoy a 45-minute guided walk through the magnificent Old Town. Here, elegant palazzi, slick boutiques, Gothic churches, and freshwater fountains belie a long and turbulent history.
Please note: Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience. The majority of this tour is on foot. Terrain includes flat, smooth and uneven surfaces that can be slippery, with a number of steps. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes.
