A short coach ride from the port brings you to the Castle of Bodrum. A large amount of stone was required to build this significant landmark, so the Knight of Rhodes purloined stone from the ruins of the famous Mausoleum of Halicarnassus -- a magnificent tomb that was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The Sunken Boat Museum features artifacts found underwater, dating from the Bronze Age through the Middle Ages.
Etrim Village, set in the mountains and founded in the Ottoman era, offers a rare glimpse of nomadic life. Animal breeding, farming and carpet weaving are the handed-down occupations of choice. See the mosque and tea house, visit the homes of the villagers, watch carpet weaving step by step, and taste the traditional offerings of the householder, including a Turkish pancake.
Please note: Wear comfortable non-skid walking shoes. Bodrum Castle has many steps that have been worn smooth over time; these can be slippery.
