Today’s transformative experience is all the Dominica’s thrilling playground for aquatic adventures amid lush, tropical surroundings. The island’s rugged mountainous landscape has produced an abundance of natural wonders such as rivers, waterfalls, lakes and valleys that are all ripe for adventure.
Begin your day with a drive to the interior of the island. Leaving the coach, an exhilarating seven-minute nature-trail hike through the rain forest brings you to the breathtaking beauty and splendor of Trafalgar Falls. This encompasses not one but two marvelous waterfalls, known locally as the Mother Falls and Father Falls. These falls cascade down verdant cliffs surrounded by tropical foliage, where you’ll marvel in the raw power and breathtaking beauty of this iconic Caribbean attraction.
Your next stop is on the banks of the Layou River – Dominica's longest waterway. At the river-tubing launch site, listen to a safety briefing, put on a life vest, grab a modified inner tube, and hop into the river. Feel the force of nature as you float down, gently spinning and swirling in the current, taking in the changing scenery at every turn.
Next you'll pause briefly to enjoy a popular Dominican pastime – river bathing. This serene and rejuvenating experience, where clear, freshwater rivers winding through lush rain forests offer a natural retreat, provides a tranquil escape and refreshing immersion. Swim in the crystal-clear water for a few minutes, before continuing down the scenic river.
Back on land, refreshments are served at the Hillsborough Reception Center, including rum punch and fresh fruit.
Please note: Minimum age is 8 years. Tour operates weather, rainfall and river conditions permitting. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, biodegradable sunscreen, and a hat. The route is winding. Guests who are prone to motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication.
