Arrive to Virgin Gorda and depart transformed. Named by Christopher Columbus, Virgin Gorda is home to dramatic landscapes, including iconic Baths, where massive granite boulders create enchanting grottoes and pools. This unique and picturesque scene is the British Virgin Island’s main attraction and will indeed leave you transformed by its beauty and legacy.
Start the tour by boarding a boat at Jost van Dyke and cruise the Sir Francis Drake Channel to Virgin Gorda. Scores of pirates and buccaneers once plied their profitable trade on this very waterway.
You'll land at quaint Spanish Town – Virgin Gorda's main settlement. An open-air safari bus awaits you. Climb aboard for the short drive to the top of the Baths at Spring Bay. This is the otherworldly setting of The Baths National Park.
Follow your guide down a narrow track to the Baths. Huge granite boulders, some measuring 40 feet in diameter, lie at the ocean's edge – the result of ancient volcanic activity. They form a maze that will surprise and enchant photography buffs and novices alike with an endless array of brilliant shots.
Take a swim in the clear, warm water, or squeeze through narrow crevices and discover small caverns where sunlight creates cool hues. The scene below the waterline is equally fascinating with small tropical fish darting through the crystalline water. You will have about two hours at the Baths.
After hiking back up to the road, you'll travel to a local beachside restaurant, where a freshly-prepared lunch is served.
Return to the marina for the boat ride back to Jost Van Dyke.
Please note: The boat ride to Virgin Gorda is 60 minutes each way via ferry and is not narrated. Transportation on the island is by open-air safari bus and is simply a transfer to the Baths. The walk to the Baths is a 15-minute downhill/uphill hike on an uneven path. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen and a hat. Snorkel gear can be rented at the Baths (subject to availability) or bring your own. The Baths are a popular destination and are often quite crowded.
