Hailed as the most French city outside of France, Québec is a journey through time and a rich tapestry of natural beauty, architecture, and history encapsulating this endlessly fascinating Canadian province.
Your tour begins with a discovery of Québec's Old Town, where the charm and character of historic landmarks surprise and delight you. Take photos of the breathtaking views from Cap Diamant and travel along the Grande Allée -- the Champs-Élysées of Québec.
Along the way, view National Battlefields Park. Also known as the Plains of Abraham, the park was the site of the historic battle where the French surrendered to the British in 1759. Located on the cliffs overlooking the St Lawrence River, the Plains of Abraham is now a beautiful 250-acre reserve with hills, gardens, monuments, and artillery artifacts.
In the Old City, visit the Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle. This splendid heritage structure has served as the second official home and workplace of Canada's Governor General since 1872. Explore the State rooms and their exceptional collection of Canadian art, objects, and furnishings and learn about the Governor General's daily responsibilities.
Travel to the top of the Observatoire de la Capitale (Observation Tower), which offers a spectacular 360-degree view of Québec City from 725 feet above the ground.
A panoramic drive past Place-Royale in the heart of the Lower Town reveals a beautifully-restored market square typical of the 17th and 18th centuries, brimming with stone architecture. This was the site of Champlain's first settlement. It is also the location of the oldest standing catholic church in North America -- Notre-Dame-des-Victoires.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Approximately 50 minutes of walking is required at the Governor General's Residence. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, inclines, and steps. The Observation Tower requires approximately 25 yards of walking at a slow pace. On September 26, 2024 visit to Governor's House will be replaced by visit to Parliament Building due to an official event in Governor's House.
