Drive approximately 90 minutes by motorcoach to one of the prettiest coastal towns in Canada. You'll be traveling along craggy shores of the Lighthouse Route en route to Lunenburg – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Lunenburg was settled in the mid-1750s by the Germans and Swiss, and even today its citizens retain one of the most interesting accents in North America. Now a bustling fishing port, Lunenburg was once considered to be the busiest shipbuilding town in the world and was the birthplace of the world-famous racing schooner Bluenose. The town's distinctive architecture and extraordinary scenic beauty is a colorful reminder of its maritime heritage.
Set out on a guided walking tour through the streets of Lunenburg with your knowledgeable guide who will tell you stories about the characters that once lived and worked here. You'll notice the town's architectural charm and learn about its seafaring legacy that made a mark on the world.
Enjoy free time to purchase lunch (at your own expense) at one of the many seafood restaurants lining the waterfront, or explore the simple coastal beauty, folk art, and shops. It can also be fun to people-watch and talk with the residents of this famous waterfront town.
Re-board your motorcoach and, on the return drive to Halifax, you'll visit scenic Mahone Bay. This little burg is famous for its picture-perfect scene of no less than three waterfront churches, and an abundance of coastal charm. Travel back to the cruise terminal while your tour guide answers your questions.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
