Halong Bay is one of Vietnam's most picturesque and fascinating attractions and is set among the clear, emerald-green waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. There are an estimated 1,969 islands here, spread over 900 square miles.
Board a junk (a traditional wooden boat) for a gentle two-hour cruise offering beautiful views of this breathtaking scenery. Enjoy the spectacular surroundings and photo opportunities as you pass rock arches, sheer cliffs, white sand beaches and tranquil coves.
Magnificent and imposing limestone karst formations rise out of the sea in unusual and intriguing shapes with names that fire the imagination. Halong means "descending dragon" and it is said the huge sea monster still resides in these waters. Will you see it? Among the dramatic islets are magical caves filled with craggy stalagmites and stalactites. A visit to the caves may be possible, time and weather permitting.
Please note:
You will walk approximately 500-700 yards from the ship to the junk boat. The stop at the cave is time permitting; terrain includes about 202 steep (102 head steps and 100 down steps). The Halong Bay authorities have banned the use of plastic in the bay; plastic water bottles are not allowed. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen.
