Today’s excursion gives you the rare opportunity to explore the Klawock River Hatchery and kayak on the stunning freshwater Klawock Lake in the majestic wilderness. This extraordinary excursion promises a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will undoubtedly be the highlight of your getaway.
The Klawock River Hatchery serves as a vital hub for salmon conservation, sustaining the fishing industry for Southeast Alaska. The hatchery has harvested salmon eggs and released millions of wild salmon fry back into the Klawock River each year since 1977.
When you arrive, you’ll have some time to explore the hatchery on a guided tour. Here you may have the chance to see salmon spawn.
Afterward, you’ll head to Klawock Lake and gear up for a kayaking adventure. You’ll receive a safety briefing and be led into the water by your guide. Then you’ll hop into your kayak and paddle between the islands, retracing Klawock Heenya’s history. Along the way, you’ll learn about the lake unique ecosystem and the nutrient dense waters. Search for great blue heron, Sitka blacktail deer, and the occasional black bear foraging as you trace the shoreline and explore the Islands of the lake.
When your journey is complete, you’ll disembark the kayak and transfer back to the port.
