Your walk begins at Furnas Valley and ends at Furnas Hot Springs, one of the richest hydrological areas in Europe, with 22 thermal springs. Walking on easy, unpaved roads and trails, you will pass through dense and lush vegetation and stop at beautiful viewpoints. The scent of sulphur mingles with the perfume of flowers, and the cold, transparent waters of the streams mix with the boiling water that are made golden by the iron in the water.
The land surrounding Furnas Lake, where farms and pastures predominate, is bordered by the great slopes of the volcanic crater. Fields are edged with Japanese red cedars, hydrangeas and the kahiki ginger.
Finally, reach Furnas Hot Springs, an area of diverse volcanic activity where water and mud geysers spout and boil. This is where the famous Cozido Furnas is cooked for six hours in the hot volcanic soil. While here, you can relax for a few minutes and enjoy a taste of a local sweet bread called "bolos levedos" along with a local soft drink made of passion fruit.
Return by coach to Ponta Delgada.
