You'll depart from Pisco and drive through the desert to the ruins of Tambo Colorado. This well-preserved adobe and stone structure, in all likelihood built atop an ancient fortress of the pre-Inca culture of Chincha, was adapted and transformed into a grain depository, administrative and military center by the Inca Pachacutec in the 15th century. Even weather conditions such as the Corrientes del Niño have not adversely affected this ancient complex, which continues to be the most interesting artifact of the Inca culture on the Peruvian coast. There is evidence that the site was used to worship the sun, as well as for the study of astronomy and everything related to agriculture.
Continue on to a private hacienda (farm), where you will tour of the family's property. The hacienda dates back to 1688, when it was a sugar plantation. Lunch will be accompanied by local musicians playing for you.
Please note: Wear comfortable shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen. Bring a hat.
