Sinop is one of the finest harbors on the Black Sea coast, and has been a welcome haven for mariners for millennia. Diogenes was born here, and in legend met Alexander the Great here as well. Visit the handsome Sejuk Alaadin Mosque and its medresse, where children learned their letters in the past. The city’s walls were anchored by the seven-towered Sinop Castle. Nearby, the Hamsilos Fjord is Turkey’s only true fjord, and the Ince Burun headland is Turkey’s northernmost point, laced with rock-cut graves.
