Monte Argetario is situated in the south of Tuscany, and is the promontory considered the natural gateway to the Tuscan archipelago, with some close-by islands such as Giglio and Giannutri, both part of the Tuscan Nature Reserve. Today's tour consists in a sightseeing drive on the Argentario promontory from Porto Santo Stefano to Porto Ercole, a very charming village on the opposite side of the mountain. Here, a walking tour will take place. Exploring with your private guide Porto Ercole, you will learn some history facts that make the historical village even more fascinating!
Artist Michelangelo Merisi, known to the world as Caravaggio, died here and is honored by the townhall. Admire the Mediterranean woods rich in olive trees, juniper, phyllireas and beech trees shining under the sun! Listen to your guide’s lecture on watch towers and Spanish fortresses, and gaze at the stunning rocks and cliffs of Monte Argentario, the ‘silver’ mountain’. The coach will also climb on a soft mountain road and stop on a scenic terrace so you can admire the Orbetello salt-lake and the blue Tyrrhenian Sea, before resuming your drive to the pier.
