The tour departs from the port to stroll around the old town of Ferrol, a little fishing village that became the most important Navy Base on the north of Spain in the 18th century. At the port we can also see and walk the traditional “camino” or the path that since medieval times was trodden by the pilgrims coming by boat from Ireland and UK. That is why it is called the English Way.
From the gardens of San Francis, we will have a great view of the Navy Base, formed by the Shipyards and the Arsenal. We continue visiting the quarter of the Magdalena, which was created completely anew by the engineers of the Navy as the elegant new town center. The quarter is full of neoclassical churches, enchanting squares, and beautiful buildings from the time of the Enlightenment but also some modern ones in Art Nouveau Style.
We finish the tour at the Galicia Square, where we see the main gardens, the theatre Jofre and nearby, the Naval Museum. From this place we take the shuttle bus to come back to the port.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Modest attire is required for visiting churches or cathedrals; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered; shorts are not allowed.
