Experience some of the incredibly special atmosphere of Stewart Island on a panoramic drive along most of its 12 miles of road. This orientation tour offers an insight into New Zealand's southernmost community -- home to approximately 300 residents.
From the jetty in Golden Bay, transfer to the tiny town of Halfmoon Bay, once known as Oban. Commerce here consists of a general store, a hotel, and a couple of cafés.
You'll drive to Lee Bay via the stunning white-sand beaches of Butterfield and Horseshoe Bays. The beaches look as if they belong in the Caribbean; not in an outpost whose proximity to Antarctica is unmistakeable.
Take in the coastal views from Observation Point before you return to the Golden Bay pier.
Please note:
Tour consists mainly of sightseeing from the transportation. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf. Antarctic winds and sudden showers can make for cool temperatures on Stewart Island, regardless of the season.
