The underground lakes of the Ryusendo Cave feature brilliant blue water that is among the most transparent in the world. The cave itself extends 2.2 miles underground, but only the first half-mile is accessible to the public. Within this underground world, check out the stalactites and stalagmites and keep an eye out for the long-eared bats that inhabit the cave. Freshwater pools, bridges, elevated walkways, and stairs transport you through this underground environment.
Visit and learn about Japanese sake (rice wine) at the in Iwaizumi,Senkin Brewery in Iwaizumi, in Iwaizumi, established during the Meiji Era in 1854. Take a short brewery tour and enjoy some sake samples of the Ryusen-Yaezakura brand.

Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. The cave's year-round temperature is approximately 50°; bring a warm outer layer. Ryusendo is a 'living' cave; water often drips from the cave roof -- you may wish to wear a rain jacket. The ground is wet and slippery. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Terrain includes 310 steps, uneven surfaces, wet paths and inclines. Lunch is a Sushi lunch; no substitutions are available.
