The name of this large fjord in the Westfjords region of Iceland translates as “Ice Fjord Deep.” The northern shore is relatively uniform, whereas the southern coastline is serrated by eight smaller fjords slicing deeply into the land mass. These are named according to characteristics or features of the fjords, such as Swan Fjord, Seed’s Fjord, Horse Fjord, etc. The port of Isafjordur, capital of the Westfjords region, is located near the mouth of Isafjardardjup. There are three islands in the fjord, Borgarey, Aedey and Vigur. Aside from the varied landscapes of the fjords themselves, keep an eye out for seals and ducks in the water, and gulls, puffins, and eagles in the skies.
