Akureyri, Iceland

PRONOUNCED: AH-KURR-RAY-REE

Akureyri is the second largest urban area in Iceland, with a population of around 18,000. Referred to as ‘The Capital of the North’, it is situated at the head of Eyjafjörður, the longest fjord in Iceland and only 62 miles (100 km) from the Arctic Circle.
