Exciting, exhilarating, memorable -- welcome to Expedition Experiences by Seabourn. Zodiac, kayaking or hiking activities enable you to experience the wonders of nature up close; in-depth cultural, ethnographic and archaeological discoveries connect you to the human and natural history of Seabourn's world. Each Expedition is expertly planned, professionally operated, and escorted by skilled expedition staff.
In the words of explorer John Muir, today you will "climb to the mountains to get their good tidings." You'll explore beautiful Mendenhall Valley during a four- to six-mile hike that takes you through a temperate rain forest and offers stunning views. The pace will be brisk; the day, unforgettable.
Your guide will choose from several excellent trails based upon the day's hiking and weather conditions. You may find yourself hiking high above a shimmering glacial lake, or along a moss-covered field of glacier moraine. Explore the lush habitat of the Tongass National Forest and learn its significance and its secrets.
Please note: Participants must be in good health and able to independently navigate steep terrain. This is a strenuous hike and not recommended for guests with recent surgeries or serious heart conditions. Expect an elevation gain of 400 to 1,000 feet (122 to 305 m) over four to six miles 6.6 to 10.5 km) over mixed uneven terrain and stairs. The trail is selected based upon the ability of the group and the conditions of the day. Each trail has several glacier views. Rain poncho, hip pack and hiking sticks are provided, as well as a granola bar and bottled water. Guests, however, are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles to minimize plastic use. Dress warmly in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer; bring gloves, a scarf and a warm hat. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Wear sunglasses and biodegradable sunscreen; bring insect repellent. Bring binoculars. Tour operates rain or shine, but may be cancelled in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable conditions. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
