Go beyond the ordinary with a tour of Willow Drive Peony Farm where the fields and hills of these gorgeous flowers stretch beneath the vast Alaskan sky. Amid the breathtaking scenery, you’ll witness the meticulous cultivation of these exquisite blooms and immerse yourself in one of Alaska’s unique and picturesque agricultural endeavors.
When you arrive at the farm, you’ll be greeted by a seasoned grower, who will be your tour guide for the day. She will start by explaining more about the farm, which is a co-op run largely by families, from original homesteaders to recent Alaskan transplants. All of them are passionate about sustainable practices, from farming to packing methods. Farmers are part of a movement to provide “slow flowers” – local, seasonal, and sustainable flowers, celebrating the beautiful qualities local flowers have.
As you tour the farm, you’ll see many varieties of peonies, with their lush petals and intoxicating fragrances. Homer is one of the largest exporters of peonies in July, as peonies are in their winter season in other parts of the world at this time. Along the way, you’ll visit the seasoned grower’s farm, with a high tunnel and fields of multiple kinds of peonies.
At the end of the tour, you’ll have the chance to buy some of these graceful flowers, which are a cherished symbol of romance and prosperity in various cultures around the world.
