Dr. George Losey, PhD received his doctorate from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California studying reef fishes of the eastern Pacific Ocean. George’s studies introduced him to ethology, a European discipline comprising study of the natural behavior of animals and their social interactions. He left La Jolla for the warmer waters of Hawai’i as a professor and researcher in zoology and the Hawai’i Institute of Marine Biology.
 

He lived underwater as an aquanaught, dove in purse seines of the eastern Pacific Ocean fishing fleet with dolphins and tunas, and visited marine labs from Israel to Australia as part of his research. His research expeditions to Lizard Island Research Station on the Great Barrier Reef led to extensive exploration of the land and fauna of Australia and later New Zealand.
 

Dr. Losey lectures on various topics in oceanography and climate change, coral reefs, marine biology, Hawaiian natural history, Hawaiian legends and “nature vs. nurture” of human and animal behavior and various destination talks. George is always happy to sit and enjoy a relaxing conversation.
