The streets of Accra are filled with beautiful artistry and culture and today you will get an introduction to two crafts unique to Ghana!
Depart the pier for an orientation of Accra on your way to Old Accra, where you will learn about a unique aspect of the manufacturing industry vital to the local community; the coffin makers.
An African tradition truly unique to the Ga people, the coffin makers create one of a kind, made-to-order coffins in many different forms – a shoe, a camera, a lion, you name it! These iconic coffins have been featured in the New Your Times, News Week and many other publications. Visit a coffin store and have the opportunity to buy a miniature coffin as a keepsake.
Continue to a local Kente weaving shop where you will learn how this intricate hand-woven cloth is made. Learn from the master weaver as he demonstrates the various stages of making this cloth which is exclusive to Ghana. For the adventurous, you will have an opportunity to try your hand at this ancient craft.
Following your visit, return to the pier, stopping at a local restaurant for lunch along the way.
