On this transformative journey, you’ll learn more about the Ngarrindjeri people who are a proud Aboriginal community with a rich heritage deeply intertwined with the waterways, wetlands, and landscapes of the Murray River region, where they continue to celebrate and preserve their traditions, knowledge, and connection to the land.
Start this distinctive tour through Nurungaui with your local guide and hear about Mark Koolmatrie, who is a Ngarrindjeri Elder with more than 40 years of experience sharing Aboriginal knowledge with visitors to South Australia.
On this enchanted tour, you’ll discover native bush foods, learn about natural medicines and hear about the local Aboriginals and their resilience. This walk takes you through a journey from the Kalowinyeri (or creation) through to present day and beyond from Nurrunderi (the creator) and his role in Ngarrindjeri mythology to today.
Continue along and stop at a reflection seat established to pay respects to all Ngarrindjeri and other women. As you experience a day in the life of the Ngarrindjeri people, you will learn about Aboriginal values in the landscape, including food plants and animals, medicinal plants, and materials used by Ngarrindjeri people.
As the day ends, you’ll leave inspired by the Ngarrindjeri, where their culture, spirituality, and sustainable practices have thrived for thousands of years.
