Board a motorcoach and travel a short distance on the main highway before turning onto a country road for a scenic panoramic drive through Kent County.
As you pass through the hamlets of Tenterden and Northiam, notice that their charming High Streets still have their original façades from the 16th and 18th centuries.
In Rye, you'll see old hops-drying houses that have been converted into homes. This fortified hilltop town has played a colorful role in history since the Middle Ages. Today, Rye is a center for boat building, fishing, pottery making, and tourism. Your visit includes a brief stop at the Heritage Centre to view a model of the original medieval town.
Enjoy free time to explore the old fortified city. Stroll down its narrow lanes, view its historic buildings or browse its shops and galleries. The church tower is a great vantage point to get your bearings; climb the steps for panoramic views of Southeast England.
En route back to the pier, you'll cross eerie yet beautiful Romney Marsh -- home to flood plains, meadows and wind-blown trees -- and pass through the village of Hythe, the former haunt of smugglers.
Please note: This tour is available only to guests whose cruise does not begin or end in Dover. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
