This tour offers a fabulous opportunity to discover the famous Norfolk Broads -- a manmade National Treasure and the UK's largest and finest wetlands landscape.
This patchwork of rivers and lakes was formed as a result of intensive digging of peat in the Middle Ages to provide fuel. The empty pits were soon filled by rising water levels and now form a network of more than 125 miles of navigable waterways. This is a landscape of beauty and peace, of water, marshes, woodlands and wide skies. The horizons offer silhouettes of church towers and windmills.
On leaving Great Yarmouth, drive inland to the village of Wroxham and board a riverboat for a relaxing afternoon on the Broads. The skipper ensures you don't miss a thing and will explain the origins of the Broads, identifying points of interest along the way and showing you an abundance of local waterfowl. Keep an eye out also for the many rare butterflies and dragonflies that inhabit the area.
Your route will take you from Wroxham to Salhouse Broad was created by sand and gravel extraction. You'll reach Horning Village before turning back towards Wroxham. Here, rejoin the coach and head back to Great Yarmouth.
