Norway has a long coastline, and harnessing the resources of the sea has been, and still is, one of the most important industries for Norway.
Today you will visit the Norwegian Aquaculture Center, located at Toft on an island outside Brønnøysund -- one of only a few fish farms in the world offering admission to visitors. The panoramic drive to the facility includes a short sightseeing tour through town, crossing the Brønnøysund Bridge and the scenic coastal landscape of the islands.
Learn about fish farming and the technology necessary to raise a fish from an egg to a finished farmed product of the highest quality. Dressed in a safety vest, you will be escorted through the floating facility to see up close the salmon fry in their sea cages. Watch them being fed.
In another building on the float, watch them swimming deeper in the sea via a remote-controlled underwater camera.
Enjoy a taste of grilled salmon before you head back to town.
Please note: It is compulsory to wear a safety vest at the floating facility. It is recommended to dress in layered clothing and wear comfortable walking shoes. Guests must be in good physical condition. Unfortunately wheelchairs cannot be accommodated on this tour.
