Alesund, Norway

Built between the Sunnmoere Alps and the Borgundfjord, Ålesund is a breathtaking fusion of natural splendor and rich history. Originating in the 9th century as a Viking base for French settlements, Ålesund has evolved into what many consider Norway's most beautiful city. A devastating fire in 1904 led to an extensive rebuilding project, gifting the city with remarkable examples of Jugendstil or Art Nouveau architecture. Today, its towers, turrets, and romantic facades stand testament to this design era, adorned with natural forms inspired by ancient or medieval patterns, animals, and folk art.

The panoramic view from atop Mount Aksla is unmissable. After ascending 418 steps, you are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the stunning peninsula and the charming, toy-like town of Ålesund on a clear day.
