Sanary-sur-Mer (Ile des Embiez), France

Tiny Embiez lies just off the port of Le Brusc on the Cote d’Azur. Its permanent population of ten are employed in the 25-acre vineyards or the Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute. The island is an environmental project with strict conservation policies created by the owner of the island, the heir of the Ricard pastis company, to study and educate about environmental issues in the Mediterranean Sea. There are a number of restaurants, a couple of small hotels and seven beaches on the island, some of which are designated Blue Flag. The vineyard produces rosé, white and red wines.
