Transfer to downtown Livorno and stroll down the Via Grande. Lined with fashionable shops and lovely cafés, this charming historical street represents a vibrant mix of activities.
Cross the Piazza Grande to find St Francis Cathedral, known for its 16th- and 17th-century frescoes. Then, traverse the Piazza della Repubblica, decorated with statues of the last Dukes of Tuscany.
In Piazza Micheli, note the dramatic monument of the Four Moors.
Fort Vecchia -- a 16th-century pentagonal fortress -- is one of the few buildings in Livorno to survive World War II. Behind it is the Church of the Little Cross.
At the 19th-century Central Market (originally called the Provisions Market), browse among the colorful stalls of one of the most beautiful indoor markets in all of Europe.
Pause for refreshments at a typical café and refuel with a soft drink or a foamy cappuccino.
Board a canalboat to see the sights from a different perspective. Livorno's New Venice district features a network of canals connecting Fort Vecchia on the waterfront and Fort Nuova built in the 16th century. Glide past all the top sights and finish with free time for a walk through the New Venice district or to shop for souvenirs.
