Discover St John's beautiful and busy harbor, whose history dates back to 1497. A panoramic drive takes you through the city to see an interesting mixture of architecture -- brightly-colored wooden houses, stone churches, colonial buildings and modern commercial structures, Government House, Garrison Church and the Basilica of St John the Baptist.
Visit Signal Hill, where Marconi received the first trans-Atlantic wireless signal in 1901. Then, travel to Cape Spear -- an escarpment jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean and the easternmost point in North America.
Those who wish to do so can take the 185 steps up to explore the Cape Spear Lighthouse -- the oldest surviving lighthouse in the province. It has been restored to its 1839 appearance and shows how a lighthouse keeper and his family might have lived in the mid-19th century.
Enjoy a photo opportunity en route during a drive through the picturesque fishing village of Petty Harbour.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Inside church visit(s) may not be possible if religious services are being held or if precluded by time constraints.
