Drive approximately 90 minutes by motorcoach to one of the prettiest coastal towns in Canada. You'll be traveling along the craggy shores of the Lighthouse Route to Lunenburg -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Lunenburg was settled in the mid-1750s by German and Swiss immigrants, and even today, its citizens retain one of the most interesting accents in North America. Now a bustling fishing port, Lunenburg was once the busiest shipbuilding town in the world. It was the birthplace of the world-famous racing schooner Bluenose. The town's distinctive architecture and extraordinary scenic beauty are a colorful reminder of its maritime heritage.
Set out on a guided walking tour through the streets of Lunenburg with your knowledgeable guide. You'll notice the town's architectural charm and learn about its seafaring legacy.
Enjoy free time to purchase lunch (at your own expense) at one of the many seafood restaurants lining the waterfront or explore the simple coastal beauty and folk art shops. It can also be fun to people-watch and talk with the residents of this famous waterfront town.
Reboard your motorcoach and, on the return drive to Halifax, you'll visit scenic Mahone Bay. This little burg is famous for its picture-perfect scene of no less than three waterfront churches and an abundance of coastal charm.
