From the pier, it's a 20-minute drive to Richmond and a quiet rural location southwest of Nelson.
Your guide provides a safety briefing; then, hop on a comfortable bike and pedal your way along the Tasman District's Great Taste Trail -- a seven-mile ride on a Bosch powered e-bike. These bikes are designed for a comfortable upright riding position with the option of a standard frame or a step-through frame.
You're headed towards Mapua, experiencing views from the coastal boardwalks of the Waimea Estuary and fertile farmland (home to a range of internationally significant bird species). Cross the spectacular Waimea Swing Bridge to reach Rabbit Island -- a forestry reserve planted with tall pines.
At the far end of Rabbit Island, take your bike on the very short and very charming ferry ride back to the mainland.
You'll now find yourself in Mapua -- a pleasant seaside village of boutiques, galleries and restaurants.
Explore galleries, studios, restaurants, a wine bar, cafés, shops and boutique breweries before returning to the ship in Nelson.
Please note:
A moderate experience and fitness level are required. Participants must be able to ride a bike competently, including changing gears and braking. Distance is a minimum of seven miles.
