Your adventure begins at the pier in Hobart where you’ll board a motorcoach for the drive to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. At this popular animal sanctuary, you’ll observe some of Australia’s most famous natives, such as Tasmanian devils and wombats, along with kangaroos and wallabies. Some of the animals are allowed to roam free in their natural habitat. Park keepers are on hand to answer questions. You’ll get a chance to interact with many of the animals. Bring your camera to capture the moment!
Afterwards, we’ll re-board the motorcoach and drive to Mt. Field National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features an approximately 20-minute walk on a well-traveled trail through stands of the world's tallest hardwood trees. We’ll emerge from the Tasmanian rainforest at spectacular Russell Falls. You’ll have time to browse the Interpretation Centre and check out the gift shop.
Next, we’ll travel to Curringa Farm near Hamilton. Here, you’ll visit one of the oldest sheep stations in Tasmania operated by the sixth generation of this farming family.
Lunch will feature an authentic Tasmanian-style barbeque, accompanied by a glass of premium wine, as well as tea and coffee.
While at Curringa Farm, you’ll be taken on a short tour called "Over the Back," which explains the local environment and the challenges that face today's farmers near Meadowbank Dam. Learn about this area’s purpose and importance to a viable farming community while providing habitat for native birds and animals. You’ll have 2 1/2 hours at Curringa Farm.
Your return route from Hamilton takes you past Glen Clyde House (circa 1840) and the historic township of New Norfolk with its many quaint cottages and gardens on the drive back to the pier.
