Your adventure begins at Zuiryuji Temple, a Soto Zen Buddhist temple recognized by the Japanese government as a national treasure. The buildings of Zuiryuji are influenced by Chinese architectural styles of the Kamakura Period. Enter the temple grounds through the beautiful Somon Gate and discover seven halls arranged symmetrically and connected by wooden, roofed corridors.
Next, visit the Takaoka Mikurumayama Museum, home to the floats featured in the Mikurumayama Festival. The festival dates to the founding of Takaoka City in 1609 and is designated as both a tangible and intangible culture asset by UNESCO World Heritage. The museum was created to preserve the artisanal skills of Takaoka’s craftsmanship showcased within the Mikurumayama floats. Visual displays allow you to follow the festival from preparation to the big day, so you can experience the excitement of the festival for yourself!
Take part in a unique experience at the Shinminato Fishermen’s Wharf midday auctions. Everything at auction is caught on the same day, so the freshness is outstanding. The fishermen of the area work to fish sustainably in order to maintain marine resources while bringing in delicious catches.
After filling your camera with memories, transfer back to the ship.
Please note: During the midday auctions, please follow the staff's instructions, only enter the area where you are permitted and minimize conversation. Flash photography and videos are prohibited. To join the middday auctions, the group is required to arrive 30 minutes before the auction starts. We appreciate your understanding and patience. In case of the bad weather, the midday auctions may be cancelled and a free time at Shinminato fishermen’s wharf will substituted. Participants must negotiate stairs and/or uneven surfaces and is therefore not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Tour sequence may vary. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Traffic can be unpredictable. The driver will do his/her best to keep moving safely. Your patience is greatly appreciated. Delays occasionally extend the tour duration. Bring local currency (yen) for purchases as few stores accept credit cards.
