Chojiya is Shizuoka Prefecture's oldest dining establishment. In its illustrious lifespan it has seen Mt Fuji erupt, the Meiji Restoration take place, and it has survived two World Wars. Through it all, Chojiya has remained steadfast. The current establishment is housed in a relocated early Edo-period traditional house -- a designated Tangible Cultural Property.
Learn about Zen Buddhism at Rinsoin Temple, a place of serene beauty and spiritual significance. It offers visitors (and the faithful) a tranquil environment, beautiful gardens, traditional architecture, and genuine peace -- an ideal spot (or similar) for a meditation and reflection session with an expert tutor.
Dedicated to preserving and passing down the traditional crafts of Shizuoka, the Traditional Handicraft Arts Center also explores innovative craft-making. Permanent exhibits introduce the works and their artisans, and special exhibits highlight specific aspects of local craft heritage.
At Gyokuro no Sato, experience a relatively casual tea ceremony with all the expected charm while taking in the beautiful natural scenery. A Japanese-style lunch is served before you return to the pier.
Please note:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. You will sit on the floor (mandatory) for the Zen meditation experience. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Tour sequence may vary. Bring local currency, as some vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Traffic can be unpredictable; your patience is greatly appreciated if a delay extends the tour duration. You must remove your shoes at one or more location(s). In the event that the head priest of Rinsoin Temple becomes unavailable, the visit may be rescheduled to another temple.
