Sue Barker

Former Tennis Champion and BBC Broadcaster

Sue Barker was born in Devon, England and from the age of 11 was coached by legendary tennis coach Arthur Roberts.

Sue won Junior Wimbledon aged 17 and the French Open in 1976. She was a semi finalist at Wimbledon in 1977. Sue ranked British number one and ranked as high as world number three and was in the top ten for almost a decade.

Sue retired from tennis in 1984 and move in to broadcasting, first with Channel 7 Australia, Sky Television and then exclusively for the BBC in 1993.

During her 30 year broadcasting career with the BBC, Sue covered a variety of high profile events including the Olympic Games. Commonwealth Games, and presented the Wimbledon Championships for the past 30 years. Sue retired from the BBC in 2022.
