Baining Fire Dance (Papua New Guinea)
Join us for a special performance of a sacred dance the Baining people graciously agreed to share with our guests in the village hills outside of Rabaul, East New Britain. Dancers donning large masks made of bark cloth, painted with large expressive eyes, dance and sing around an enormous bonfire. The exciting finale of this dance is truly a sight to behold, as the wood has burned down and embers and sparks flare about the kicking dancers.
