Explore the picturesque 85-acre Jardin du Roi Plantation. Situated high in the rain forest valley of South Mahé, this working plantation grows a splendid variety of spice plants, tropical fruit trees, essential oil plants and endemic palms. In 1771, the famous Peter Pepper, or Pierre Poivre, decided that the Seychelles' Mahé Island was situated at the perfect latitude for growing spices -- an important commodity in those times. The site at the base of this hill was originally used for 10 years as a spice plantation but was burned to the ground in 1780 by Lieutenant Romainville -- commander of the French military. The site lay dormant until a new plantation was created in 1860 by William Green, who extended the plantation into the virgin rain forest. Descendants of the Green family now manage this plantation, still operating today. Enjoy fresh fruit juice at the plantation.
Board a catamaran for a scenic cruise to Victoria along the coastline of southwest Mahé. You'll stop on the way for swimming and snorkeling, or you can spend the time simply soaking in the sun on board the spacious boat. Drinks and water are available on board and a live guitar performance will enhance the ambience of your experience. The crew will be on hand with lightweight snorkel vests to ensure that no one misses out on the experience.
Please note:
Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, sunscreen and a hat. Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. The terrain is uneven with exposed roots and some steps. The transfer to the catamaran is via inflatable dinghy. Not suitable for pregnant women or for guests with back conditions.
