Leaving the pier by coach you’ll cross the Swartkops River and turn inland to the flat valley of the Sunday River.
Fifty miles on, you’ll arrive at Addo Elephant Park. Addo Elephant Park consists of 126,000 acres of bush country and is home to approximately 300 elephants. This astonishing number has bred from the handful of pachyderms that remained in the area after the herd was almost wiped out by game hunters in the 1920s. Although it belongs to the same species as the African elephant, the reddish Addo elephant is smaller with more rounded ears, and the females generally have no tusks.
On a two-hour game drive you will hopefully encounter this endemic animal, as well as various species of antelope. Also noteworthy is the flightless dung-beetle, found almost exclusively in Addo.
Head back to Port Elizabeth where the tour ends at the ship.
Please note:
Tour is not suitable for guests using a wheelchair or those with mobility limitations as getting into and out of the game vehicles can present a significant challenge. During the day, temperatures can get extremely hot. The game drive vehicle may not be covered. Wear comfortable walking shoes and breathable clothing; bring sunscreen, a sun hat and binoculars. Ride will be bumpy. Guests with back or neck problems are not allowed to participate. Minimum age is 6 years. No food may be taken into the reserve or on the open vehicles. Participants are not permitted to use cellular phones during the game drives or to speak loudly or stand up on the game drive vehicles, as this will disturb the animals. Smoking is not permitted. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
