Enjoy the phenomenon called the Meeting of the Waters, where the mighty Amazon and Tapajos Rivers come together and can be seen running side by side. Each river has its own distinct color and they don't mix for many miles.
Your boat tour will continue to Maica -- a natural outlet of the Amazon River. Here, you will have the opportunity to observe the local inhabitants and the wildlife that call the river home.
Bird watching is one of the highlights of this tour as many different species of birds live in the Amazon Basin. Your captain will stop along the way so you can try your luck at fishing for the voracious and fearsome piranha, or just relax on board and observe the abundance of the flora and fauna of the Amazon.
Please note: Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent and a hat. Transportation in Santarém is not air-conditioned and there is no PA system. The rainy season in the Amazon extends from December through March. Bring a light waterproof outer layer on tour with you. Your guide will do his/her best to speak English, but please keep in mind that the limited tourism infrastructure of Santarém is part of the city's charm, and bear with any language difficulties (s)he may encounter.
