Explore the only coastal national park in Iceland, an area of immense beauty and interest. Your first stop is at Djupalonssandur where you will explore the rocky black beach. The location was once home to a prosperous fishing village that thrived back when the Snaefellsnes Peninsula functioned as one of the most active trading posts on the island.
Continue on to the Malarrif Visitor Center, an old farm and lighthouse. A paved road leads down to the rocket-shaped lighthouse at Malarrif, from where you can walk along the cliffs to the rock pillars at Londrangar (an eroded crater), which surge up into the air in surprising pinnacles.
Upon arrival to Arnarstapi, embark on a refreshing walk that takes you along a pathway boasting many interesting geological phenomena and rich bird-life. Records of settlements around Arnarstapi date back to the Bardar saga Snaefellsass, an ancient Icelandic Saga that tells of the half-human, half-ogre who once lived on the Snaefellsnes peninsula.
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant. After a full day of exploration, sit back and enjoy a panoramic drive on route back to pier.
Please note: Wherever Included Experience tours are offered, guests are allowed to participate in only one included experience per call unless otherwise specified in the tour description. Weather in Iceland is very unpredictable and views are weather permitting. It is recommended to wear sturdy, non-skid footwear, warm, waterproof outerwear always comes in handy. Terrains in some areas have rocky, narrow paths and some terrain is either sand or gravel. Kindly take caution when walking at some sites.
