Take the freeway straight to the center of the Aguerre Valley. The city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna sits at an elevation of 1,600 feet above sea level and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Centuries ago, it was the capital of the island. La Laguna developed in an orderly manner and, as a result, today its streets are straight, its squares large and its monuments evidence of its former grandeur.
The best way to explore here is on foot, so you'll walk to the Church of the Convent of Santa Catalina, the popular market in the Plaza del Cristo, the cathedral, and along the Calle de San Agustin, with its rows of beautiful balconies and old convents. View the façade of the Episcopal Palace and visit the History Museum housed in Lercaro Palace.
You will visit the La Baranda Wine Museum in El Sauzal. Take in the view over the north coast from the terrace.
Turn back to the Tacorante area and stop at Bodegas Monje. An apéritif is served with different types of wines. The first vines planted in the Canary Islands came from the Eastern Mediterranean, including the vines that produce the famous Malmsey wines that were immortalized in the works of Shakespeare.
