Discover the serene and traditional villages of South Albania, set along a coastline of stunning views and strategic importance. You are headed to Himara, but there is plenty to see along the way.
You will pass through the territory of the largest Naval base in Albania. Not surprisingly, this region was closed to visitors during the Communist era.
Stop en route to visit Porto Palermo Castle -- a readily defensible fort in the shape of a triangle, with walls 60 feet tall. The castle was used by Ali Pasha of Tepelena during the Ottoman times, but local legend holds that the present structure sits atop the ruins of a Venetian stronghold.
At the village of Himara, you will find the main beach resort of southwestern Albania. This area is well known for its warm, sunny climate, beautiful beaches of Spille, Llamani, Potami, and Livadhet, and the unwavering hospitality of the locals. Himara is also a cultural center where Albania's traditional polyphonic singing is heard. A short walk through the village will bring you to a local coffee shop where you will enjoy a snack and taste the local alcoholic drink known as raki .

Terrain includes stairs, inclines, and uneven surfaces. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
