Drive through rural Provence to the lovely village of Cassis, built in the 17th century atop ancient Greek and Roman ruins. Once an old fishing port, Cassis has now become a popular seaside resort. This quaint village lies in an attractive setting at the end of a bay, where the valley meets the sea.
The streets of the Old Town are lined with 17th- and 18th-century homes. Board in the little train for a 20-minute transfer and then walk with your guide along the seafront Promenade des Lombards. The main beach here is dominated by a 14th-century castle.
The village is known for the quality of its seafood as well as it local wine -- Cassis.
After your guided tour, enjoy some free time on your own to shop at the various boutiques, or to enjoy refreshments at a café (at your own expense).
Reboard little train for a 20-minute transfer and drive back to the ship.
Please note: A small train from the coach parking to the entrance of the village is available May 1 through October 15th only; it is basic shuttle transportation. October through April, coaches are allowed to park closer to the village. Expect delays when boarding the train. Some walking is required, even when the train is operating. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
